Unit 65 West Mercia Reveals Its Official World Scout Jamboree 2027 Badge

After months of ideas, sketches, discussion and voting, Unit 65 West Mercia is proud to unveil its official badge for the 25th World Scout Jamboree, Poland 2027.
What makes this badge particularly special is that it wasn’t designed for the young people, it was designed by them. Every element reflects the identity, heritage and pride of the 36 young people who will represent West Mercia on the world stage, and the final design was selected by the unit itself.
The result is a badge that tells a story of home, heritage, friendship and international Scouting.
A Badge Full of Meaning
The World Scout Jamboree is about bringing together young people from across the globe while celebrating where we come from. The Unit 65 badge captures exactly that.
The Outline of Poland
At the heart of the badge is the map of Poland, the host nation for the World Scout Jamboree 2027.
The map serves as a reminder of the incredible adventure ahead and the opportunity for Unit 65 members to join tens of thousands of Scouts from around the world in friendship, cultural exchange and shared experiences.
The Black Country Flag
Inside the outline of Poland sits the distinctive Black Country Flag, representing the towns, communities and surrounding areas that make up West Mercia County.
The flag celebrates the region’s industrial heritage and the communities that helped shape modern Britain. For many members of Unit 65, the Black Country is home, making it a fitting centrepiece within the host nation’s outline.
By placing the Black Country Flag within Poland, the design symbolises West Mercia Scouts taking their local identity and pride onto the international stage.
The Canal Bridge and Narrowboat
The canal bridge and narrowboat featured on the badge are a tribute to the rich industrial heritage of the Black Country area.
For generations, the region’s extensive canal network was the lifeblood of local industry. Narrowboats carried coal, iron, limestone and manufactured goods between mines, foundries and factories, helping to power the Industrial Revolution and connecting communities through trade and commerce.
The narrowboat and bridge celebrate:
- The engineering achievements of the region.
- The hardworking communities that built and operated the canal network.
- The trades and industries that shaped local history.
- The enduring waterways that remain a treasured part of the landscape today.
For many local people, canals remain a visible reminder of the area’s resilience, innovation and sense of community values that continue to inspire Scouts today.
However, the narrowboat also represents something much more personal to Unit 65.
Just as the canals once connected industries, businesses and communities, this journey to the World Scout Jamboree will connect young people with new cultures, new experiences and lifelong friendships from around the world.
The narrowboat symbolises the adventure ahead, a voyage of discovery that will take Unit 65 far beyond West Mercia. Along the way, Scouts will meet people from different countries, experience new ways of life, challenge themselves, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
While the cargo carried on the canals may have changed, the spirit of connection remains the same. Where narrowboats once linked trades and industries, this journey will link people, friendships and shared experiences, creating a new generation of stories to be told for years to come.
The UK and Polish Flags
Positioned at the top of the design, the Union Flag and Polish Flag acknowledge the home and host nation.
Together they represent the journey from West Mercia to Poland and the international friendships that Scouting creates.

Designed by Young People, for Their Adventure
One of the most important aspects of this badge is that it was created through the ideas and creativity of the young people themselves.
The 36 young members of Unit 65 played a central role in developing the concepts, selecting the symbols that mattered most to them and choosing the final design.
The finished badge reflects not only where they come from, but also the excitement, ambition and sense of adventure that they will take with them to the World Scout Jamboree in 2027.
