It is a requirement for all adults in Scouting to have undertaken ‘ongoing safety training’ at least every five years and this is monitored at the point of appointment review.
This course will look The Scout Association’s Safety Policy and the specific responsibilities within it. The five steps to risk assessment and continued understanding of hazard, risk and dynamic risk assessment. The continued understanding of the role of the leader in charge. Knowledge of the range of support and resources available to help carry out responsibilities in relation to safety, including POR and activity roles and the reporting of near misses and minor and serious injuries, including what to do in an emergency.

This course will look at recognizing the signs and symptoms of abuse, how to report an incident / concern / worry / gut feeling that you have about a young person, and good practice solutions that adults in Scouting will encounter with young people in their sections.
This training is often available in your District but we are now also offering County run First Response Training Courses at a cost of £10.00 per person which is payable upfront by debit/credit card. Leaders, Managers and Supporters in Scouting must hold a valid First Response qualification and with this in mind, West Mercia Scouts are offering First Response training courses throughout the year, increasing provision within the County to help ensure this mandatory training can be completed by all. Needs to be completed every 3 years.
